Out on the battlefield, there are canons roaring, muskets popping, soldiers and their superiors screaming and music struggling to be heard to circulate the next command.

Inside the Soldiers Barracks here at Fort Mifflin, Soldiers form a Brotherly Bond over where they've been, what they’ve seen and the unknown horrors that may face them until The War For Independence is won. It’s a rare quiet time. While some prepare a meal, others are happy to take a load of their aching feet that have been marching for miles. While engaged in conversation, one solder stands prepared, weapon in hand just in case they are called into action. B

Behind them, the two-tier bunk beds that accommodate this regiment are usually lined with hay as they try to fight for as much comfort as possible. Wooden pins are substituted for nails so that the camp could be broken down and reassembled rather quickly if needed. The sleeping situation here at Fort Mifflin was quite unique though. Fort Mifflin was built on an Island of mud and is surrounded by a moat that is subject to sever flooding, even to this day. Therefore, the water level inside the barracks could rise as high as two feet. Soldiers on the lower bunks would have to sleep sitting up for fear of drowning.
