“Hallway Of Horror”

When it opened in 1829, Eastern State Penitentiary was supposed to be single-story cell blocks according to the original design by architect John Haviland (1792-1852). While newer cell blocks were still to be built, the existing ones were already over overcrowded making it necessary to build the newer cell blocks as two-story structures. Cells on the first floor had access to private yards where the inmates were allowed to exercise for one hour a day. Since the cells on the second floor had no yard access, the adjacent cells were used for prisoner's exercise. After it's closing in 1971, Eastern State Penitentiary was abandoned and left in disrepair. Words can't describe the eerie feeling one gets while strolling through the never-ending corridors.
