“Big Sister”

Being the youngest of two, I have always had that luxury of having my sister to look up to. Whether the waters were calm or rough ahead, and I was unsure of how navigate it, I simply look up to the example she has set. Although I may not have always taken her advice or followed her example, she was still there to help guide me through the ebb and flow of life. When I began high school, I used her example as a rough outline. When she started a family of her own, I sat back and observed how she raised her children and when my turn came, I strove to make her proud.

I have seen her shine bright through the sunny days and I have seen her stand strong and proud through the hurricanes. She is radiant when the sun beams on her, and provides the light in those dark times. When the wind and the rains have passed, grass is flooded, wires down, poles knocked over, branches broken, trees uprooted, the world around her looks like a war zone. She stands tall, strong and proud, overseeing the regrowth while she waits to guide again.

In my good times, she's been there. In my worst times, she's been there. In my times of accomplishments, she is the first to tell everyone who will listen. In my times of weakness, she is the rock to lean on as I rise back up. She has been there through thick and thin my entire life. I know she always will be. My sister was my first best friend and my first partner in crime. When needed, she has provided me with excuses and tough love. The best thing in life that a boy can have is a Big Sister.
