"Growin' up leads to growin' old and then to dyin'
Ooo, and dyin' to me don't sound like all that much fun"

~ John Mellencamp

When we were kids, the most important thing in life was play time. Everything we did, centered around play time. When play time came, our imaginations ran WILD. I still have the Sesame Street Playset that my sister and I played with as kids. Complete with Mr. Hooper standing by his store!

As we grow older our toys get a bit more expensive and our adventures change. In high school, I can remember sitting down behind my drum set and feeling unstoppable. I would play for four hours sometimes and it was amazing. It was such a magical thing to not have a care in the world and just PLAY.

When we become adults, we find that the time we have to play gets smaller and smaller with each responsibility we collect. The lack of that fun time can turn us into grumpy old people. I know, I have seen it. At times, it has even happened to me. Those are the times most of all, when we need to have our play time.

My father and I have always had play time. Sometimes after joking around, my mother will yell at him telling him to grow up. His whole response is “NEVER!” It’s the silliness that keeps us young at heart. It’s what keeps us happy.

As adults, we are responsible for a lot of things. Our happiness is one of them. It’s up to us to keep that balance and never lose that kid in us. Stop what you are doing RIGHT NOW, and do something that will make you laugh! Be careful though, it’s contagious.
