“The Rhythm Gods”

You can’t talk about the local Philadelphia music scene WITHOUT including these two. Drummer Jeff Pancoast & Bassist Roy Fisher have played together for decades. Beginning their partnership in 1977, they have rarely played in other bands without each other. Throughout their long history together, they have opened for all kinds of legendary musicians. From teen idols (Mickey Dolenz), to Rock legends (Rick Danko of The Band) to local legends (John Eddie). Every Philly band knows them. Any band that one of them join, the other is soon to follow. Why? Because they are a package deal. They have been playing together so long that they can read one another making the perfect rhythm section. Roy and Jeff are perfectionists and they take the music seriously. I have never seen a rhythm section as tight as this. If they are playing a cover song, they play it note for note as it was on the record regardless of how complicated it may be.

After 22 years of playing together in various bands, in 1999 they founded a band of their own called The Road Dogs along with guitarist Rick Toy and keyboardist Albert Kleinschmidt. In addition to The Road Dogs, Roy and Jeff are currently also playing in The Scott McClatchy Band, The Mark Evans Band and The Peace Creeps (with Richard Bush of The A’s).

Part of their secret of success is their ability to be willing to work with anyone who will jump on stage with them. They are so highly respected in the Philadelphia music scene that other musicians come out to watch them work their magic. The Road Dogs began inviting these musicians to come up and play a song with them. It became so popular that it turned into a staple in their show that one of their three sets would be a who’s who of musicians playing with them. After 43 years together, they continue to prove to the world that no one does it better.
