“Kitchen Kettle Intercourse”

Recently, we have made our new vacation spot Lancaster County. It is a very slowed-down, laid-back area that is peppered with the Amish community. Personally, I’m fascinated by their old-world living. Nestled in the town of Intercourse, Pa, is a small shoppes village. Kitchen Kettle Village is filled with Mom & Pop and Amish owned shoppes. It has become a staple for us to spend the day there on our last day of vacation. Each shoppe is more unique than the last one. We see everything from antiquing barns to a spice kitchen that had my wife’s mouth burning for 45 minutes. At The Jam & Relish Kitchen, we stop in for delicious free samples along with tasty corn chips. Our favorite, and always first stop, is called Insect Creations. They have an intriguing collection of insects and small animals in custom frames or even as paper weights and yes, they are all REAL animals. The last time we were there, owner Brian Brenner recognized my daughter as his best customer. She loves to browse all the perfectly preserved insects, then pick out her favorite to add to her collection. So, the next time you are in Lancaster County, this is defiantly a great family day destination!
