2011 Vacation Part I

So, in case people have not heard, this is my first paid vacation in 4 years. I had been floating around the computer industry for three years getting laid off every six months. So now I have been a retail manager for over a year and finally get a vacation. And boy do I need one. We just had inventory prep for the last 3 weeks and everyone was on edge.

Where should we go for vacation? We knew we wanted to hit the Jersey shore but kept going back and forth between Seaside Heights and Wildwood. All my life, my family would vacation in Wildwood so my vote of course was for that. But the last time we stayed in Seaside Heights it was rather nice. The only problem was that since the show Jersey Shore began filming there, we had heard it is filled with trashy people looking to emulate the lives of that wonderful cast.

Back in June, we took a couple of days and took the kids to Wildwood to check out some hotels we were looking at. Although, we still hadn’t decided 100% on Wildwood, we thought we’d look at some places. My vote was for the Topaz in the ‘Crest since that is where my family used to stay, but Kelly brought up a valid point. She said it would be a really good idea to stay within walking distance of the boardwalk so that we would not have to do much driving.

We stayed at the Lu Fran hotel at the end of the boardwalk that night and it was really nice. The people who owned it were terrific. The only problem was it was too small for a baby and she had nowhere in the hotel room to run around and not get yelled at.

Back at home Kelly found this hotel called The Brittney in Wildwood. It looked very nice so we booked an apartment efficacy for August. My daughter, Brianna was really excited because their pool is shaped like a giant B, which she thinks is for Brianna. Needless to say, the time leading up to vacation was going too slow for me and everyone could tell I was excited! The weekend prior to the vacation, my mother-in-law decided she would go with us, which I was looking forward to because I am used to going on vacation with family anyway. The day before she decided that it would be a better idea to stay behind and keep my father-in-law company.

The Saturday before vacation started, both Kelly and I were working till 2pm and we kept texting each other how slow the day was going. When 2pm finally arrived, I flew out the door as fast as possible and called my dad for the traditional “I’m On Vacation” song but it didn’t ring quite as sweet since he has been out of work recuperating from his surgery anyway. Kelly had to be in for a truck delivery at 2 am so she was beat by the time she got home. She took her nap while I kept the baby occupied and we tried to watch the movie Insidious. I really was not all that interested and decided to try and get some music together on the computer to burn for the car ride down to the shore.

I woke up at 4am with really bad stomach pains and could not sleep. At about 7, I was finally tired enough to try and get some sleep but by that time the rest of the family were getting up and starting to get things ready for the trip. I also had run out of my allergy medicine and was feeling the effects. We all got up and got our clothes ready to be packed and did our running around (last minute shopping for shore supplies). After we took the kids over to see my parents, I finally got home and was feeling even worse from my allergies. I took my allergy meds and a nice long nap. Wouldn’t you know, I wake up freezing and felt like I had a fever. So, all the rest of the night I have been light headed and freezing wrapped up in a blanket. But before I went to bed, I had to finalize some music for the road trip and copy some songs onto Brianna’s iPod. Well, it took me about a half an hour just to find the right cord for it, then when I found it, iTunes would not recognize the device. So, after about an hour and a half, I finally gave up on that, took some blue cough syrup stuff and passed out. I woke up around 4am with a splitting sinus migraine so I took some Excedrin but now I can’t fall back to sleep. Wow this is one hell of a way to start out my vacation! When I get back, I will post just how well it all went. As Bobby Rydell sang, all I think about “Headin’ down the shore to have a ball once more”

Until next time, Thanks for reading!
